Wooden floors certainly give the houses the beauty that every homeowner desires. Laying laminate flooring makes the dream of wood floor admirers come true at a much cheaper price. The process is much easier, since no skilled workers are needed. Are you thinking about an installation? Below is a simple DIY tutorial that will give your floors the sheen they deserve less.
The installation is simple and requires the following tools and materials: laminate floor, hand saw, hammer, drawbar, foam pad, spirit level, tape measure and spacers. A jigsaw can also be used without a hand saw. It's time to lay your laminate flooring yourself.
The floor should be adapted to local conditions at least one week before installation. This is required due to the contraction and expansion of the soils at different temperatures. The floorboards should be laid flat in the room in which they are to be installed. All plastic packaging should be removed to allow for free air circulation, which plays an important role in acclimatization.
- Surface preparation
Before starting a process, the base moldings should be removed and stored. Carefully lift the existing floor from one end without leaving any staples or nails. Then clean the debris and look for parts of the subfloor that may require repair. For installations above concrete only make sure that they are completely dry and cured.
- Put the foam pad
A foam pad can sometimes be supplied with pre-assembled laminate flooring. However, if purchased separately, the installation is done strip by strip. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to seal the seams and make the edges.
- Trim the door jambs
Once the pad is placed, the door jambs should be shortened accordingly. This can be achieved by placing a board with the edge along the post side. After marking the plate, use a hand saw or a jigsaw to cut the plate parallel to the floor, cutting out cutouts so that the plate fits just under the posts for a professional look.
- floor covering
Lay the boards parallel to the longest wall. Position the board so that the groove in the corner of the room is in line with the wall. Place spacers of half an inch between the wall and the plate to allow for stretching or shrinkage. They should be placed at 12-inch intervals. When done, continue with the rest of the planks, making the appropriate fits for the grooves and springs. Gentle strokes for a comfortable fit with a punch block as a hammer can damage the boards. Offset ends of adjacent panels for a more durable and attractive installation.
- Final touch
The installation of the last floorboard can be difficult. You can trim it or your tongue. Sleepers can then be placed wherever a door is located or where a laminate is next to a floor covering. Finally, remove the spacers and reinstall the bottom rails. Now admire your DIY.
